Brief Programme Notes

This piece is taken from the Nutcracker, a ballet by Tschaikowsky. The composer has since made a selection of eight of the more popular numbers from the ballet before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming The Nutcracker Suite. This piece is arranged for tuba quartet as well as Tschaikowsky's Trepak by Peter Smalley. Sugar Plum Fairy is infact a character from the ballet who makes her first in the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy at the beginning of Act II.
