Jonti Smith - 2nd Euphonium
Jonti began playing at the age on 7 first on Tenor horn, before moving to Baritone then Euphonium. He is taught by inspirational teacher Gary Rose, former Principal Baritone of the International Staff Band. Jonti recently gained a merit in his grade 8 and is now working towards a performance diploma. At the age of thirteen he joined Towcester Studio band on 2nd Baritone. He soon moved to Principal Euphonium when he was 15. He has competed in several contests and has played in many concerts with the band.
Jonti is also Principal Euphonium with the Northamptonshire County Youth Concert Band and 2nd Euphonium in the County Youth Brass Band, with these bands he has toured Poland, performing on Polish national radio and television and played in venues such as the Derngate Theatre, The Castle Theatre, The Birmingham Symphony Hall, and is to play in the Royal Albert Hall with the brass band in November.
Jonti is principal euphonium with the Sponne School Brass Band and Concert Band. He has toured in Paris and Barcelona and played at an international rugby match with these bands. With the Brass Band he has played the famous euphonium duet "Softly as I Leave You" in the Schools Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
