Fanfare for the Common Man

Composer: Aaron Copland

Arranger: Rory Cartmell

Brief Programme Notes

Fanfare for the Common Man was commission for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as an opening fanfare for all their concerts during World War II. Many fanfares were written for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for this reason but Fanfare for the Common Man is the only one that remains in standard repertoire. It has also more recently been used in “Saving Private Ryan” after the assault on Omaha Beach.
