About us
The Beginning
The Primo Tuba Quartet was formed in May 2007 from members of the Northampton County Youth Brass Band as an independent student run group not managed or supervised by the staff.
Concerts
After rehearsing for just over six months the quartet had their first concert in a village hall to a small audience of friends and family. After a first successful concert the quartet continued to work on concert music and early in 2008 the quartet performed in their second concert with the Leicester South Salvation Army Brass Band and a Vocal Soloist from the International Staff Songsters.
The quartet’s most recent concert was a concert with a Trumpet Soloist and Organ Soloist to raise money for St Peter de Merton Church in Bedford.
The National Festival of Music for Youth
The Primo Tuba Quartet were lucky enough to be able to take part in the National Festival in which they played two pieces arranged for the British Tuba Quartet. These were Overture to the Force of Destiny by Verdi and JS Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor which were both arranged by Peter Smalley. The quartet played in both the Regional and National rounds of the competition and after receiving large amounts of positive feedback at both these stages were invited to play the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.
